When it comes to detoxing the body from the inside out, I’m ‘hands on’ about herbs and juice fasts. So, when the concept of detoxification from the outside in came into my awareness, I was more than excited to get the sweep on natural brushing or more commonly known as dry brushing.
Dry brushing is a way to stimulate the sweat glands, kidneys and skin (did you know that the skin is considered a third kidney?) to detoxification because it provides a gentle internal massage. Natural brushing was recommended by the Finnish doctor Paavo Airola for his patients 30 years ago and is still popular in European spas and many cancer treatment centers today. For centuries, the Russians, Turks and Scandinavians have used this therapeutic technique. Dry brushing is an effective prevention for dry skin and a great way to exfoliate the skin–all in the same process.
After reading several articles by reputable naturopathic doctors, I was very encouraged.
