Vegan Products, Be Careful When Choosing Them
You have the power, as a customer to vote against animal experimentation and buy only vegan products or those products, which are free from any animal ingredients, and have not been tested on animals. Use those vegan products, which are free from animal products or by-products and be careful while choosing and selecting them. Be extra careful with the following ingredients.
Emu oil or mink oil
Minks are used for their fur, and emus for their feathers or meat, and these oils are extracted and sold to the cosmetic industry, after they are killed by rendering or boiling the animals.
Gelatin
Any vegan products using gelatin, like medicines, cosmetics, food items and others should be avoided as gelatin is derived from boiling animal skin, tendons, ligaments or bones.
Placenta extract
Placenta is an organ unique to mammals, derived from the uterus of slaughtered animals. Shampoos, skin creams and masks with this ingredient should be avoided. Vegan products will not include placenta extract in the ingredients.
Chitin and keratin
Products like shampoos and conditioners may have chitin, which is made from insects and crustacean, nor keratin, which is protein from the hair, horn, hoof and feathers of animals.
Civet, musk, ambergris and castoreum
You should not use products like perfumes that may have civet, which is made from the anal pouch of civet cat, musk- obtained from the male musk deer, ambergris- that is a whale excretion, and castoreum- that is the anal sexual gland of the beaver.
Tallow
We all use soaps, but do not realize that soaps often use tallow, which is hard animal fat, and should be avoided as it can cause blackheads and eczema. You should instead use the 100%, pure vegan soap made with vegan ingredients.
Squalene
This ingredient is derived from shark cartilage and the liver of sharks, and should not be used, unless your product says it is vegan. Avoid products like hair dyes, moisturizers, and cosmetics using this ingredient.
Honey and beeswax
It is used as a coloring, an emollient in cosmetics and as a flavoring in foods, and the beeswax is obtained from melting the honeycomb of the virgin bees with boiling water, straining and cooling it. Products containing these ingredients like lipsticks, face creams, lotions, mascara and other cosmetics should be avoided. Only vegan products are cruelty free. They help to protect the health of humans and the lives of animals.
