UNDERwhelmed By Acne Skin Care Treatment Promises?

Promises, promises! We hear them, read them, say them. But when it comes to acne skin care treatments, why do we feel most products under deliver? Don’t we already have medicine cabinets full of  liquids, creams and lotions? But I wonder…what would happen if we approached it from another angle.

My teenager has heard her mother talk about acne treatments ever since she was old enough to understand the word skin. Our conversations usually start and end around the topic of wholeness. What does that have to do with acne and skin care treatment you say? Read on.

  • Hormones ~puberty is a big contributor to acne.  That’s because “sex hormones” (androgens) peak during this time. Mother Nature intended our bodies to make good use of these hormones later on in life. Naturally, we can’t shut off our hormones (nor should we!), patience is key in dealing with this one.
  • Diet ~ if your diet includes a lot of sugars, carbohydrates and fats or oils, it will aggravate your acne, amongst other things. Better alternatives are organic, fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains and plenty of organic juices and water. Avoiding foods that cause acne such as processed and refined flours, deep fried foods, etc are an immediate solution to our problem.
  • Stress ~ “don’t sweat the small stuff!” is an internationally known phrase and still rings true. Learning to keep our emotions and more importantly, our responses, in check is critical. It’s ok to use the words, “let me get back to you on that” on important decisions. Your skin and nervous system will thank you for it now…and later.
  • Sleep ~ getting adequate sleep is an important factor we unfortunately compromise too often. Sleep helps our bodies repair, regenerate and restore. Our skin ais no exception. Getting the full 7-9 hours each night is critical.

Acne skin care treatments are more than just what goes on top of our skin. Learning wholesome lifestyle techniques, healthy eating habits and graciousness in spirit are keys toward good skin and beyond. Like the cover of a book, our skin will show the wear and tear or love and care of our selves. Now that’s a promise worth it’s keep!
