Finding Your Perfect Sunscreen/Sunscreen Alternatives
Although summer is nearly over, we’re still spending plenty of time outdoors. Whether we are taking a walk, bicycling or jamming at an outdoor concert, we’re not usually thinking about the dangers of being exposed to the sun’s UVA and UVB rays. But the dangers are real, and its not something that we can just ignore as the rates of melanoma and other skin cancers are on the rise,. So, we just want to keep our skin hydrated and healthy. It is important to wear sunscreen year round. But some of us don‘t like putting foreign chemicals and agents on our skin, so we must find alternatives to the sunscreens with toxins that many cosmetic companies make.
So what do we do? Read labels and choose natural sunscreen or natural sunscreen alternatives with ingredients you understand.
Another idea is to make your own naturally handmade sunscreen or natural lotion. Google up “homemade sunscreen recipes” and you will find a lot of recipes to choose from. Just make sure they are chemical-free.
Sesame oil can block or reduce about 30% of the burning rays, coconut and olive oils about 20% and Aloe Vera also inhibits 20% of the rays of the sun, add to your oils aloe vera, shea butter, Vitamin E and Grapefruit seed extract and essential oils for scent, then Voila!
Most of these items can be purchased at a general grocery or health food store. But the biggest benefit of making your own handmade sunscreen is you know that is truly a natural lotion and safe.

Great post! I am getting more into the “homemade” side of beauty lately…but that doesn’t mean I am getting rid of my favorite organic products! I absolutely love Dr. Mercola’s healthy natural sunscreen. It protects in a safe way and is not thick like other chemical-free sunscreens. Check out my blog archives for my review of this wonderful sunscreen.
