Its no secret that you should use natural beauty cosmetics and handmade skin care products simply because they are healthier for both you and the environment. And despite the fact cosmetic companies and FDA claims that these mainstream products are completely safe to use, many scientists have discovered that these products do contain harmful chemicals, and that over time, the use of such products could harm us. So it comes as no surprise that many companies try to create all natural cosmetics, some are truly natural beauty cosmetics, but others are not. So here is a list of ten chemicals to avoid, when out shopping for all natural cosmetics-

1- Parabens are pretty much the enemy even though some scientists still debate the effects of parabens. Not only do they irritate and cause allergies, these petroleum derived chemicals contain hormone-like agents that could cause cancer. Avoid any product that ends with the word paraben.

2- Fluoride, the common chemical found in toothpaste, is a bio-accumulative toxic that many Americans ingest every day.

3- Mineral Oil from petroleum, may sound natural, but its not. Its also toxic to your skin and pollutes the environment and is definitely not found in any all natural cosmetics.

4-Talc powder is often found in cosmetics and also in pure form(which is often used in baby care). But it often contains asbestos which actually damages the lungs if inhaled.

5- Aluminium is most commonly used in deodorants to prevent sweating.  Its often linked with alzheimers and cancer.

6- Fragrance is nice, but added fragrances to your shampoos and lotions often cause allergies, so most natural beauty cosmetics are fragrance free.

Instead use essential oils for scent which are directly extracted from plants

7- Ethanolomine/TEA or Diethanolomine/DEA are known for carcinogenic chemicals called nitrosamines.

8- Propylene Glycol is often associated with skin problems(such as dermatitis) and even depression. It is also used in anti-freeze products, so natural beauty cosmetics do not contain this ingredient.

9- Paraffin and Lanolin are emollients used in lotions and other skin care products. Even though paraffin is derived from crude petroleum, and  lanolin is a natural wax derived from the wool of sheep, both can suffocate your skin.

10- Phenol, sometimes known as carbolic acid, can cause a range of problems(including paralysis or coma) if ingested.

Remember that no matter what skin care product or cosmetic you buy (even if the label says all natural cosmetics) always read the back of the label. Natural beauty cosmetics are always best, and you shouldn’t accept anything less.
