Beauty Tools using Natural Soaps & Natural Solutions
A brush, a comb, a curler, oh my! What other goodies do we use every day, sometimes several times a day, to keep us looking orderly and beautiful? How many times in the past month have we stopped to clean and care for our beauty and make-up tools? Read on for a few simple tools.
Tool #1 Organic soap and water
Give your combs, brushes and even tooth brushes a good soaking once every two weeks (once a week is optimal) in filtered water and vegan soap (I like tea tree oil infused in it for it’s microbacterial killing properties). Gently swish the tool around in the water for about a minute. Rinse. Gently loosen debris with fingers if necessary. Repeat. Pat dry. If needed for caked-on residue (e.g. hairspray, makeup, etc) soak in a cup for 15 minutes and proceed as described above.
Tool #2 Air dry in sunlight
The sun’s rays are one of the most powerful tools to cleansing. Air drying your beauty tools after patting dry in full sunlight will not only dry the brushes, sponges, etc but will also make them germ-free because dust mites and other microorganisms that feed on dead skin do not like bright light.
Tool #3 Baking soda
If time does not allow for a full washing of tools, a dab and dust in baking soda will serve as a rescue. Natural make up brushes tend to collect sebum easily. Place a tablespoon of baking soda in a cup, swish and turn brush round and round for 30 seconds and shake loose.
