I recently did a post on how to make your bathroom more green, but what about your makeup bag?  Whether or not you’re new to greener and more eco-conscious living, you may have harmful beauty products and cosmetics inside you’re makeup bag. And be warned, some companies use labels like “natural” or “organic” when in truth most of the product’s ingredients are far from being natural. Let’s find out how to clean up your daily routine and makeup bag.

Double check the back of the products, and chuck anything that has names like phalates or parabens which are known as harmful chemicals. Ditto for chemical names that you cannot pronounce or recognize. If you’re searching for organic products, make sure that there is a label or seal that certifies that the product is organic. Examples of such seals include the USDA Organic seal.

Just because you’re avoiding toxic chemicals doesn’t mean you should tan naturally by baking out in the sun. The sun can damage your skin as much as any chemical could. Seek organic and natural tanning products, and always use a natural SPF lotion.  And I know I did a blog post about this before, but chuck out (and stop using) products from cosmetic companies that test on animals. Cruelty is never beautiful.
